Get to Know Us
Self-Reliance, Inc. is a supported community living organization in West Burlington, Iowa. We provide high-quality social services and direct support for people with severe mental health and/or intellectual disabilities in a residential setting. Our goal is to provide hope and opportunities for our clients and their families. We focus on our clients' goals, and we help them achieve the things they want in life.
We are comprised of community partners, and our community advisory board helps set goals and steer the company. This board includes people from religious backgrounds, vocational training organizations, and people offering outreach programs, such as picnics, cookouts, and travel opportunities. We also work in direct partnership with IOWA Works.
Dr. Patrick Williams and attorney Mitchell Taylor founded Self Reliance Inc. in May of 2014. Both founders maintain a personal and professional commitment to increasing accessibility to direct mental healthcare services in Southeast Iowa. The founders hired Megan Williams as the Executive Director in August of 2016. Since then, she has led the organization to expand from 10 up to 24 consumers receiving services, an increase from 20 to 40 employees on payroll, and become CARF accredited in Community Integration.
